IO in Tazne van Wyk's murder case lauded.

With the sentencing of nine life terms for the man behind eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk’s murder, the investigating officer in the case, Captain Martino Plaatjies says he will sleep better.

Bush Radio knows the name of the accused, but will not mention him, to protect the victims.

Plaatjies, an experienced detective with 32 years in SAPS, of which 17 are in Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) environment, started off with the murder of Tazne van Wyk

Investigation revealed that the accused was on a crime spree spanning 30 years, starting with indecent assault of a family member that initially was not reported.

‘’As part of that investigation, the detective dealt back into the history of the accused, where he uncovered an array of offences, ranging from assault, indecent assault, kidnapping multiple counts of rape and murder,’’ said Warrant Officer, Jospeh Swartbooi.

‘’the accused who had gained the trust of seven victims, six of whom were children and family members, manipulated and abused this relationship,’’ he added.

SAPS in the Western Cape lauded Captain Plaatjies for his efforts in the case.

‘’The management of SAPS have commended the efforts of Captain Plaatjies, as well as the prosecution team for a sterling investigation that the accused serves a lengthy sentence. We hope the outcome of this case will serve as a motivation to other detective that are investigating similar cases.’’ said Western Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile.

‘’Although this may be cold comfort for the family,  sentenced will ensure that he remains incarcerated away from children,’’ he added.
