Experian data thief who disappeared before sentencing, arrested

The man who failed to show up for his sentencing three times following his conviction for fraudulently obtaining personal and business data from data services firm Experian has been arrested.

 On Monday, Karabo Israel Phungula , the founder of Hi-Pixel Communications was arrested in Naledi, Soweto.

Phungula, was convicted in October last year, after the State proved that Phungula had planned to sell Experian data for more than R4 million.

He failed to appear in court for his sentencing on 14 February, 1 March, and 5 March.

Phungula briefly appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court following his arrest. The matter was postponed to Thursday and he was denied bail.
