One person died and
more than 20 people were injured in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Main
Road (the M71) in Lonehill, Johannesburg.
According
to Emer-G-Med's Kyle van Reenen , the collision took place at around 07:30
earlier this morning, with multiple commuters left with critical injuries ranging
from moderate to serious before being taken to nearby hospitals for further
care.
According to the Johannesburg
Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD)’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla, only one
vehicle was involved, and the cause of the accident has not yet been
determined. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident
had occurred, no arrest has been made yet and a case of culpable homicide has
been opened at Douglasdale Police Station for further investigation.
