Blood shortage in W.Cape for B-plus and O-minus blood group

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) are appealing to all eligible donors to donate blood, particularly the B-plus and O-minus blood groups.

According to Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS, there is only a 1-day supply left for the B+ blood group, and a 2-day supply left for the O- blood group. O- can be transfused to all blood groups.

The WCBS says it aims to maintain a blood stock level of 5 days for each blood group.

‘’Your blood donation is needed now! To find a closest blood donation clinic, visit the WCBS app or wcbs.org.za. Do something remarkable, donate blood.’’

If you are between the ages of 16 and 75, weigh 50kg or more, are healthy on the day of donation, lead a safe sexual lifestyle and would like to save three lives in just 30 minutes, you should be able to donate.
