Western Cape police arrested three suspects for the illegal possession of prescribed drugs at Hanover Park on Tuesday.
After searching four premises in the area, police successfully recovered 50 boxes of Mayla Aprozalam, used to treat anxiety, and 189 bottles of Stilpane.
PICTURE: PixabayAccording to the Hawks' Zinzi Hani, the drugs were confiscated at Cape Town International Airport cargo, en route to London. The suspects, aged between 18 and 19 will appear in the Belville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
“While some drugs are illegal to possess without a prescription, these schedule 5 and 6 medicine are nevertheless finding their way into the wrong hands. The illegal possession of prescription drugs is rife in the Western Cape,” says Hani.
The three suspects were detained for contravening the Medicine and Related Substance Act.
