Four suspects were arrested for possession of illegal abalone on Wednesday between Hartenbos and Klein Brakriver in the Western Cape.
The concerted efforts by members of Sea Border police led
to the arrest of the suspects aged between 18 and 25.
The officers made the arrests after they received
information about divers at the river mouth and decided to follow up.
A search ensued and 47 chucked abalone was found.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, says the
estimated street value of the abalone is about 72-thousand rand.
“Diving and harvesting equipment were also confiscated. The
suspects were arrested and detained at Da Gamaskop SAPS,” Twigg said.
