Mitchell's Plain woman arrested for cultivating cannabis

A 24-year-old woman was arrested in Woodlands, Mitchell’s Plain, on Tuesday afternoon, after police received a tipoff about drugs and firearms at the address given.

‘’Members found a glass jar containing dagga on a table, as well as 82 cultivated in various rooms. [The woman was arrested] for cultivation of Cannabis and possession of drugs and detained at Lentegeur SAPS,’’ said Ruth Solomons, Metro police spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Metro Police officers recovered a firearm and ammunition in Grassy Park on Tuesday.

‘’Officers were conducting patrols along 8th Avenue when they saw a group of men loitering near a canal in the area. As the officers approached, the group ran away, but one of them threw an object into a nearby bush,’’ said Ruth Solomons, Metro police spokesperson.

‘’Officers gave chase, but the suspects got away, so they returned to the scene and searched the bush, recovering a .22 Star pistol, with serial number intact and 11x 22 rounds of ammunition in the magazine,’’ she added.

Solomons said the items were booked in as abandoned at Grassy Park SAPS.
