The case against a woman who allegedly poured boiling water over a 4-year-old child, has been postponed.

She appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates Court, on Friday, after the woman from Langa was arrested on Thursday. However, the incident occurred on 24 June 2023.

The EFF shared their outrage. Regional secretary, Mzubanzi Dambuza, claims the police knew about the incident, but only acted, when their members and community, intervened.

‘’We condemn the incompetent SAPS for the unnecessary protracted period it took before they arrested the perpetrator after the case was opened by the family on the young victim on 24th June 2023.’’

‘’What is unsettling is the fact that SAPS are too quick to silence protests and peaceful pickets during protests, but drag their feet when it comes to dealing with crime, domestic and child abuse. It is only when cases have become a social media sensation that they take action,’’ he added.

The case was postponed to next Friday for a bail application.  She will remain in custody.
