Duo arrested in Delft for allegedly selling and distributing fraudulently purchased electricity from Eskom

Two suspects were arrested in Delft on Friday for their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of fraudulently purchased electricity from Eskom.

The Hawks’ Siyabulela Vukubi, said the duo had accessed Eskom meter numbers and successfully purchased 600 units of electricity on three separate occasions. Vukubi added that during the last transaction, the suspect was arrested and state funds were recovered.

‘’ Further information was followed which led to the arrest of another suspect who is also allegedly involved on this criminal syndicate,’’ said Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi.

Both suspects, aged 28 and 31, are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, on a charge of fraud and theft.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Major General Mathipa Makgato commended the members for the job well executed and encouraged the members of the public to report such criminal activities to the authorities.
