The City of Cape Town says it will only comment on an accident involving its MyCiti bus, once it received the accident report.
A MyCiTi bus collided into a coffee shop, Truth Coffee,
situated in Buitenkant Street, on Monday evening.
The accident occurred at 18:45. It is understood the bus
operates on route 103, which is in and around the Civic Centre.
'As far as we know, seven people sustained minor injuries
and were discharged from hospital last night. It is unclear what has caused the
accident, and we await the findings of the investigation,' said Rob Quintas, Mayoral
Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
He added that the vehicle operating company contracted to
the City, who employs the bus driver, is required to submit an accident report
to the City and to report the incident to the South African Police Service for
investigation.
‘’The City is committed to providing a world-class public
transport system to our residents, and threats to safety are regarded in a most
serious light. We ask that the public please be patient while we await further
information,’’ said Quintas.
