The Hawks has arrested a ninth suspect in connection with the alleged kidnapping in June 2023 of a Welgemoed woman at Parow Industria, after she left a family business where she works.
The victim was rescued four days later in a
house in Mfuleni, during a raid by the police. It is reported that the victim’s
vehicle was later found abandoned in Gugulethu.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani said officers
executed a warrant of arrest and the ninth suspect was arrested on Thursday and
will appear in transit in the Maluti Magistrates’ Court in the Eastern Cape
court on Monday, where he will be transferred to Bellville Magistrate Court.
The suspect is then expected to make his first appearance on Tuesday at the
Bellville Magistrate Court.
‘’On Thursday, 17 August 2023, at 17:30, the
Multidisciplinary Kidnapping task team successfully executed a warrant of
arrest for the suspect. He is the ninth accused arrested on this matter. The
operation received support from Cape Town CIG members and Maluti detectives at
Herbron informal settlement in Maluti.’’
The case against eight other men - Sivuyile Chris Miki, Yamkela Gedeni, Mandisi Mzikayise Zweni, Athenkosi France Nyathi, Lwandile Mngazana, Lwazi Landzela, Siyabulela Madini and Zolile Sombo – are still before the court. They are facing charges ranging from kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, extortion and theft.
