Santaco has declined an invitation to resume talks with the City of Cape Town on Thursday.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin
Hill-Lewis said on Thursday morning that Santaco had been invited to resume
talks at midday, with the City and Western Cape Government.
‘’Following 48 hrs without
incident in Cape Town, and a peaceful morning traffic peak today, Premier Winde
and I have invited Santaco for a discussion at 12pm. We hope they will engage
constructively to end the strike. We also continue to protect busses and now
also food trucks,’’ said Hill-Lewis in a tweet.
The South African National
Taxi Council (Santaco) is expected to launch a court application to return its
impounded taxis on Thursday.
Santaco has indicated it will
continue with its stayaway until "a moratorium has been instituted by the
City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government".
Writing in a letter, SANTACO says the decision was taken as there was no resolution to the impasse.
