Western Cape police arrest suspect for possession of a prohibited firearm

The Manenberg police in the Western Cape arrested a 25-year-old man on Monday for possession of a prohibited firearm.

Members were busy with stop and search operations in the area when they noticed a suspicious group gathered outside a premises.

The team stopped the group and ensued with a search where they found the 25-year-old in possession of a 357 Revolver.

According to the Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, he is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court later today.

“Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad, deployed in Manenberg policing precinct to curb the ongoing gang violence in the area, were busy with stop and search operations in the area when they saw a group of people gathering outside a premises. The members accosted them and ensued with a search upon which they found a firearm with ammunition on one of the males. He was arrested and detained,” said Twigg.
