Dinosaur festival called off due to non-compliance

The City of Cape Town’s Events Permit Office (EPO) shut down an unpermitted Dinosaur expo event in Wynberg.

The event organizer hosted the event, Dinosaur World Festival Cape Town, in Wynberg without permission from the EPO.

The permit office says the event was deemed illegal due to non-compliance with the Events By-Law and the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act.

The organizers also held the event despite being without a Land-Use permit for the use of Maynardville Park in Wynberg. That application was pending. Therefore, a fine was issued to the event organizer for hosting an event without a permit.

City of Cape Town said, during the visit to the site, the permit officer found that there were no medical personnel on site and there were young children in what was essentially an unsafe environment.

“Illegal events endanger the lives of patrons as a result of the lack of security and crowd management, to name but a few.”

If residents come across a suspected illegal event, an advertisement or hear about an illegal event, they are urged to mail events.permit@capetown.go.za or call the City's EPO on 021 417 4035.
