The City of Cape Town is on the hunt for a suspect who shot an off-duty Law Enforcement officer, in Hillview, and is appealing for the public’s help.
In a statement, the City said the officer had left his
residence just after midnight on Friday, with friends, when they walked past a
group of people in the street, where two shots were fired in their direction.
The officer sustained a head wound and was rushed to a
local hospital for treatment.
This is the third shooting of a Law Enforcement officer in just over a month. Zamikhaya Kwinana died while on patrol in Nyanga, whilst Toufeeq Williams was caught in gang crossfire in Mitchell’s Plain, while off duty.
The City of Cape Town condemned the incident and has asked
anyone with information regarding the incident to report it
‘’We are very grateful that the officer survived, and will
assist him and his family on his road to recovery. We are doing everything possible to assist SAPS
in finding those responsible,’’ said JP Smith, Mayco member for Safety &
Security.
‘’However, we ask anyone with information about the
incident to please report it to the City’s 24-hour tip off line on 0800 11 00
77. The City will pay a reward for information that leads to a successful arrest
and prosecution in this case,’’ he added.
