Postbank experiences 'technical challenges' on day of Old Age grant payout

Millions of old age grant recipients were baffled as their South African Social Agency (SASSA) card were not working at the various payout points on Tuesday.

Many took to social media complaining that their grandparent/pensioners were unable to withdraw their pension from the ATMs or at retailers. Some using gold cards issued by Postbank experienced issues accessing their money – others received half.

In a statement, Postbank confirmed that they are experiencing technical challenges affecting SASSA social grant payments.

‘’The technical challenges also affect some SASSA SRD R350 withdrawals within retailers. SASSA grants beneficiaries are assured that Postbank’s technical teams are working around the clock to resolve the issue,’’ said Marietha Harris, Postbank Head of operations.

‘’Postbank deeply understands the inconvenience and challenges that this technical issue poses to our valued SASSA grant customers. We apologise unreservedly to all our customers,’’ she added.

Postbank said social grant payments transactions via SASAA Gold Cards within post Office branches are processing normally and not affected by the issue.
