WC SAPS urge citizens who are victims of stolen items to report it to authorities

Western Cape police have urged citizens who are victims of stolen cell phones to report it to authorities, as this, they say, will assist SAPS when arresting persons.

This comes after a 44-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for being in possession of stolen property when Sea Point police followed up on information about a stolen cell phone

‘’It is alleged that the father of the victim traced the phone which was stolen near [Jakes Gerwel Drive] a few days ago. The father traced it to a specific vehicle in Green Point and alerted police who found the iPhone in the same vehicle which the suspect was travelling in,’’ said Captain F.C van Wyk

Van Wyk said officers also recovered other cell phones and memory sticks including a pair of binoculars, all believed to be stolen property.

The suspect has since appeared in court on a charge of stolen property.

‘’Victims of crime are advised to at all times report stolen cell phones to the South African Police Service as the reporting of such cases will assist SAPS when arresting persons with numerous items such as cell phones and televisions in order to track the legal owners of the items,’’ said Captain F.C van Wyk
