Residents of Wesbank in the Western Cape have asked the government to build them their own police station to fight crime in the area.
The community says it has been asking for the police station
since 2016 without success. The area is plagued by crimes that include murders
and gang related violence.
"Year after year, we have been pleading with officials
to consider adding a dedicated police station in the area because the crime is
getting out of hand," said Wesbank Women's Movement founder, Elvina
Cleghorn.
Residents have to travel to Delft or Phillipi to report
these crimes.
The community say they feel like they are prisoners in
their own homes.
