Two men were arrested in George on Monday, after they were found with Mandrax tablets worth over R400 000.
The Hawk’s Provincial spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, said a
multidisciplinary team reacted on information received on Sunday, about the
duo, aged between 31 and 53, that will collect a suspicious parcel at
particular premises in George. Hani explained that the parcel was said to
contain a consignment of drugs.
‘’The team conducted observation at the premises. At about
09:25, a White VW Polo stopped at the said premises. One suspect collected the
parcel while the other waited in the vehicle.
The suspect then returned to the vehicle with the parcel,’’ said Warrant
Officer Zinzi Hani, Hawks Western Cape spokesperson.
‘’As the vehicle was leaving the premises, the team stopped
the vehicle and conducted a search. K9 narcotic dog reacted positive on the
parcel, the parcel was opened in the suspects' presence, and eight (8) packets
containing a total of 8 000 mandrax tablets were discovered inside the parcel,’’
she added.
Hani said officers also seized R3 000 believed to be
proceeds of the drug trade.
The two suspects will appear before the Tembalethu
Magistrates' court on Wednesday, on charges of drug dealing.
