A 34-year-old suspected drug trafficker will appear in the Strand Magistrates Court on Tuesday, after he was found in possession of mandrax tablets worth R2.7 million
The Hawks' Zinzi Hani said the suspect was arrested on
Sunday on the N2 near Strand heading towards Cape Town.
''The team acted on information of a suspect who was
travelling from Eastern Cape to Cape Town with a truck loaded with mandrax
tablets. The Hawks’ team spotted the vehicle matching the description and it
was stopped and searched,'' said Warrant Officer, Zinzi Hani, Hawks' Western
Cape spokesperson.
''Upon conducting the search, 61 000 mandrax tablets were
found hidden in a false compartment inside the truck. The suspect was
immediately arrested and the drugs were seized for further investigation,'' she
added.
Meanwhile, Western Cape police arrested two suspects in
Milnerton and Parklands, respectively, over the weekend, for being in
possession of Mandrax tablets.
On Friday, members of Milnerton Crime Prevention Unit
followed up on information received about a drug peddler, who stays at Dublin
Street, Summer Greens.
Captain Madyibi said officers searched the premise and
found 738 Mandrax tablets and 8 x small Bankies Tik. The suspect was then
detained at Milnerton Police Station.
In an unrelated matter, members of Milnerton CPU further received further information that someone was selling Mandrax at another premise. Upon arrival, the members of Milnerton CPU searched the premise at 22 Carrington crescent, Parklands and found 19 000 Boss Mandrax’ s valued around R955 300 in a white wardrobe in the house. The suspect was arrested.
Both suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’
court once they have been charged.
