Firefighters are battling a blaze near Castle Rock, in Simonstown.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Services spokesperson,
Jermaine Carelse said fire crew were alerted just after 7a.m on Tuesday.
‘’Firefighters remain on scene at a fire in the Simon’s
Town area. The call was received just after 7am of mountain slopes alight. City
firefighters responded, along with crews from the Table Mountain National Park,
NCC and the Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS).’’
Carelse said more than 60 City firefighters are on scene.
He added that four helicopters and a spotter plane are involved in aerial
firefighting efforts.
As of 4p.m, the fire was not contained.
Table Mountain National Park manager, Justin Buchmann, said
the
fire, began on private property on Tuesday morning, and has spread into
SANParks and Navy properties.
‘’Teams are working tirelessly around the clock with four
Huey Helicopters, a spotter plane, and firefighters and tankers from the City
of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services.’’
SANParks has called on the public for donations of 5l
water, energy bars, sealed snacks of choice, etc.
