Man arrested in Belville for kidnapping and holding 20-year-old ransom

A 35-year-old man is expected to appear before the strand Magistrates Court on Monday, after he is set to be behind an alleged kidnapping that occurred in April 2023.

The Hawks’ Siyabulela Vukubi said the suspect was arrested on Friday in Bellville.

‘’His arrest emanates from an incident where a 20-year-old victim was allegedly kidnapped in Strand during March 2023 where a ransom was demanded for his release. A ransom was allegedly paid by the family of the victim to the amount of R150 000-00,’’ said Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi.

‘’The investigation team followed all the leads until Friday, 01 December 2023  when information was received about the whereabouts of a possible suspect in Bellville. The team pounced on the suspect and arrested him,’’ he added.

Vukubi added that further investigation revealed that the suspect is also wanted on a case of Extortion and Intimidation that occurred in Strandfontein during October 2023.
