A 58-year-old man has died, while swimming with friends, at
Clifton 4th beach, on Tuesday morning.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's (NSRI), Craig Lambinon,
said the man died from a suspected medical incident.
"We believe 2 local men, Good Samaritans, noticed the
man unresponsive in the water and they recovered him to the shore where a local
doctor, who happened to be there at the time, immediately initiated
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation efforts, assisted by bystanders," said Craig
Lambinon, NSRI spokesperson.
"At 06h43 NSRI Bakoven were alerted. On arrival on the
scene advanced life support CPR continued but despite extensive efforts sadly
the man was declared deceased," he added.
Lambinon said the body of the man was taken into the care
of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services. Police have opened an
inquest docket.
