Western Cape Premier Alan Winde is set to deliver the State of the Province Address (SOPA) on Monday, 19 February 2024, in Paarl.
This is the same day when the sixth session of the sixth Parliament of the Provincial Government will be open for the 2024 year, by Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP), Daylin Mitchell.
Winde addressed 2023’s SOPA at the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. In previous years, the opening of
Parliament has been held in Mitchells Plain, Genadendal, and Velddrif.
The Premier is expected to give an update
regarding progress made by his government in delivering on its priorities of
reducing load shedding, growth for jobs, safety, dignity, and wellbeing. Winde
will also lay out how the provincial government intends to build on its
successes by ensuring residents' and businesses' needs are supported throughout
2024.
“This
year we will still have to face and address many of the same challenges we
confronted in 2023. We must maintain our resolve and intensify our efforts to
keep growing our economy, enabling more jobs to be created and making our
communities safer, so that our residents can live in dignity. I look forward to
working with Speaker Mitchell and members of the provincial parliament who play
an important role in governing our province,’’ said Alan Winde, western Cape Premier.
