Man arrested for illegally possessing crayfish worth R500 000

A 36-year-old man will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Thursday, after he was caught illegally possessing crayfish in Hanover Park on Tuesday.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain F.C van Wyk, says the crayfish is estimated worth half a million rand.

‘’On 06 February 2024 at about 19:15, members attached to Operation Restore received information that crayfish are being stored at a premises in Summit Road, Pinati, Hanover Park. The members immediately operationalised the information and tactically approached the address. They found and confiscated 14 020 units of crayfish tails, and 203 crayfish with an estimated street value of R500 000.’’
