Trio arrested in Khayelitsha for illegally possessing abalone

Three suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of abalone in Harare, Khayelitsha.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, says Police members attached to the Harare Crime Prevention unit conducted stop and search operations on Wednesday.

“At around 10:00, they operationalized information received about a Silver Toyota Etios transporting abalone. The members proceeded to the nearby Baden Powel Drive intersection with the N2 highway.’’

“Their patience were rewarded when they spotted the mentioned vehicle and instructed the driver to stop next to the road. They searched the vehicle and the occupants upon which they confiscated a consignment abalone which were concealed in two bags, “he added.

Swartbooi said the value of the Abalone are unknown and that the three occupants of the vehicle aged between 27 and 29 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court on Thursday.
