Mass shootings continue to plague communities on the Cape Flats. Three teenagers were murdered in Elsies River this week. Furthermore, two mass shootings also occurred in Mitchell’s Plain and Mandalay. Four people died and four others were left wounded.



On Wednesday, five males sustained gunshot wounds in Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain. Police said unidentified gunmen opened fire and fled the scene.

‘’Lentegeur detectives searched a crime scene in Nerine Street for clues after five male on Wednesday, 13 March 2024. The information at our disposal at this stage suggest that un identified gunmen opened fire at the five males aged between 15 and 27 and fled the scene in a White Peugeot. The victim were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Lentegeur police are investigating 5 counts of attempted murder,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.

On Thursday, two people were killed and two others wounded in a mass shooting incident in Steenberg. According to police, the incident could be gang-related.

‘’According to reports, the victims were standing on a street corner in Montague Village when shots were fired at them from a passing silver vehicle. The 27-year-old and 44-year-old victims were declared deceased by medical personnel. The other two were taken to a hospital for treatment. No one has yet been arrested in connection with the incident,’’ said police.
