Time's running out for parents of Grade 1 & 8's to apply on time for 2025 school year

Parents or guardians who still have not applied for their child to be in Grade 1 or Grade 8 in the Western Cape for the 2025 school year, do not have enough time.

The closing date for online admissions for these two grades closes at midnight on Friday.

In an enquiry from Bush Radio News, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), said it received about 94 316 applications. This is 13 733 more from Wednesday’s update.

‘’That is both Grade 1 and 8. We received approximately 5 000 applications for Grade 8 between Wednesday and Thursday. So last push!,’’ said Bronagh Hammond, WCED spokesperson.

‘’We are appealing to all Grade 7 parents who have learners that are going to grade 8 next year, to ensure they apply online today. This is the last day that you can apply online for the on time application. At midnight tonight, it will be allocated as a late application. So please ensure you apply on time, don’t wait! Get your documents ready now, and apply today,’’ she added.

Hammond says applying on time means applicants will be considered in the first batch of the School Governing Body (SGB) sorting.
