During a media briefing on Tuesday, TMACC Managing Director Wahida Parker explained: “The operations at Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company will be closed for seven weeks. That means all operations at the lower station, including food outlets, the visitor center, and the facilities, will be closed. Additionally, all facilities at the top station will also be closed”.

Technical Executive Andries de Vries outlined the maintenance work, including the replacement of 1.2-kilometer, 20-ton track ropes, requiring specialized Swiss engineers. De Vries underscored the complexity and international collaboration involved in the 7-week operation.

Park Manager Megan Taplin detailed specific trail closures for safety due to overhead cable work and helicopter operations. Despite these closures, many trails will remain open. A detailed map will be released later.

Regarding safety concerns, Parker warned hikers, "If you are going to hike up and get caught in inclement weather, there is no possible way that we can bring you down. The work we're doing will make it impossible for the cable cars to run."

Parker also addressed other logistical concerns, including restricted parking on Tafelberg Road.

“It's quite an expensive exercise”, Parker said regarding the cost of the operation, “No expense will be spared in terms of ensuring our compliance and ensuring ultimately the safety of all our visitors and our staff I might add”.
