JP Smith from the City of Cape Town reported that heavy rainfall had caused the river to flow rapidly, prompting the request for additional resources. Despite the efforts of Fire and Rescue officials, who expanded the search area, the driver remains missing.

The minibus taxi was impounded due to numerous outstanding fines. Authorities have contacted the registered owner of the vehicle to aid in identifying the driver. The search continues as officials remain on high alert.
