ANC asks Western Cape Premier to curb escalating crime in the province

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Western Cape has written to Premier Alan Winde to address the increasing levels of crime in the province.

Gang violence has again flared up in several parts of the Mother City. In recent weeks, Ottery, Manenberg, Hanover Park, and Lavender Hill has been the scene of raging gun battles. This resulted in the City of Cape Town sending its law enforcement officers to affected communities to assist police in efforts to quell tensions.

ANC leader in the Provincial Legislature, Khalid Sayed, says building safe communities requires a cross-party approach.

‘’Addressing crime effectively can have multiple benefits, not just building cohesive and safe communities, especially for women and children, but also job creation in crime-fighting and growing our vital tourism sector. All political parties in the Western Cape legislature must work together to fight crime.’’
