Former National Assembly's case transferred to High Court

The former Speaker of the National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court today.

It was a short appearance and her case was transferred to the High Court. The state has served Mapisa-Nqakula with an indictment in order to prepare for the high court proceedings. During her previous appearance last month, the State indicated that no one else would be charged in the case.

Mapisa-Nqakula was accused of receiving a bribe of four million rand from a defense contractor when she was still the Minister of Defence. She faces 12 charges of corruption and one of money laundering.

Mapisa-Nqakula is currently out on R50 000 bail and will appear in court again on October 16.
