Two men have died after a fire broke out in Nomzamo, Strand, in the early hours of Saturday.
The City’s Fire & Rescue Service says firefighters were
notified at 01:40 of informal structures burning in Benox Street.
‘’Fire crews from Sir Lowry’s Pass, Strand, Somerset West,
Macassar and Mitchells Plain fire stations attended to the scene. Firefighters managed to contain
and extinguish the blaze by 03:00 which destroyed five informal structures and
left seven persons displaced,’’ said Jermaine Carelse, City of Cape Town Fire
& Rescue Services spokesperson.
He says the bodies of the two men were found amongst the
debris and were certified deceased by medical personnel.
The cause of the fire is unknown and the South African
Police Service is investigating the matter.
