Woman dies in an Avanza in front of Nyanga Police Station

Nyanga police are investigating the murder of a woman who was shot in an Avanza in Zwelitsha Drive, on Tuesday morning.

The woman was in the back seat when she was shot in a Toyota Avanza she used to travel to Mitchells Plain.

They had been driving from Gugulethu and while on their way to fetch another passenger, they were attacked by unknown gunmen.

Fortunately the driver of the Avanza survived the incident.

“ A Toyota Avanza that was transporting staff was shot this morning. The driver ran to the station when this happened but one passenger who was a lady died” Member of CPF Dumisani Qwebe explained.

The passenger succumbed to her wounds in the vehicle in front of the Nyanga Police Station. 

Western Cape police confirmed the incident, saying they are investigating the matter.

''Reports suggested that the complainant, a 50 year old woman was a passenger in a Toyota Avanza on Tuesday 02 July 2024 at around 07:06. Unknown armed men fired gunshots at the vehicle fatally wounding the victim. She was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The unknown armed men fled the scene. The investigating officer will pursue all the relevant information in a bid to ensure a break through,'' said Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi.
