A hijacking and kidnapping case was registered at the Robertson SAPS following the abduction of the victim, who is British national.
The Multi-Disciplinary Anti-Kidnapping Task
Team comprising the Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit, DPCI and Crime Intelligence followed leads and successfully
traced and rescued the 84-year-old kidnapped victim.
“Intelligence led to the location of the victim
on Saturday, where she was held in an unoccupied shack in Zwelethemba,
Worcester. She was immediately taken to a medical facility for observation,”
said police spokesperson FC Van Wyk.
Arrests have
not yet been made.
In an unrelated matter the same multi-disciplinary
team arrested two foreign national men, the suspects are 24 and 25 years of age
and were charged with kidnapping and extortion.
Last week a 20-year-old victim was walking to
her residence in Stellenbosch.
An unknown vehicle with the two suspects
stopped and kidnapped the victim. The suspects demanded a randsom from the
victim’s family, which was immediately paid and the victim was released on
Friday. She was immediately taken for medical examination. A case of kidnapping
and extortion was opened for investigation.
“Information was followed up and a vehicle of
interest, a black BMW was identified during preliminary investigation. Licence
Plate Recognition system was activated and the vehicle was successfully traced
to the George area. Two foreign national males aged 24 and 25 were found in the
vehicle and detained for further investigation. An undisclosed amount of cash
was found in the car including the phone used”, said Captain FC Van Wyk.
The two suspects were charged and are due to
appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates court on Monday on the mentioned
charges.
