Six people left displaced, after their Mitchell’s Plain home caught alight

Six people have been left displaced, after their Mitchell’s Plain home, caught alight.

The City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, said firefighters responded to the house alight in the early hours of Wednesday.

‘’The City’s Fire & Rescue Service received an emergency call at about 00:45 as a house alight in Nile Way, Portland in Mitchells Plain, on Wednesday, 11 December. Crews from Mitchells Plain and Gugulethu were dispatched and found the property well alight on arrival.’’

He said firefighters managed to contain and extinguish the blaze by 01:40.

‘’Substantial damages to the affected property was sustained and slight heat damaged to the adjacent dwelling,’’ said Carelse.

Meanwhile, authorities are ascertaining on how a fire broke out at in Melody Walk at the Town Centre, Eastridge, Mitchell’s Plain.

Carelse said firefighters were alerted about the incident that occurred on Friday, just after 16:00.The building is a multi-occupancy and according to Carelse, the fire was on the top floor where it was used as a residential units.

‘’Crews from Mitchells Plain, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Lakeside, Roeland Street and the IMT 5 team. By 18:20, Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze that totally gutted the top floor and burnt through the roof.’’

‘’A firefighter injured his right hand and was treated and transported to a nearby medical facility,’’ added Jermaine Carelse, City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson.
