Taxi drivers are set to undergo anti-GBV training. SANTACO in the Western Cape launched its programme on Tuesday at the end of 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children campaign.
The theme is ‘’Rides without fear; together against GBV.’’
The
campaign aims to raise awareness in the fight against GBV, implementing and
enforcing strict policies against GBV, harassment and misconduct within the
taxi industry.
There are about 20 000 taxi drivers who will receive the
training.
‘’We transport 90% of the community and that community is
our mothers, fathers, children, and it is important to take this iniative and
ensuring our communities are safe and not be bystanders in this fight against
gender-based violence,’’ said Gershon Geyer, SANTACO Second Deputy Chairperson
in the Western Cape.
