Western Cape Police arrested a 32-year-old suspect linked to the hijacking of a truck loaded with stolen Nestlé products worth R1 million in Manenberg, on Tuesday.
The security company responsible for tracking the truck
alerted the police about the hijacking. Acting swiftly, officers spotted the
vehicle in Athlone, and a high-speed chase ensued.
‘’On Tuesday 11 February 2025, a truck loaded with Nestle
products was hijacked just before 06:00 in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg. The
security company responsible for tracking the truck alerted SAPS K9 Unit after
the truck was hijacked. The members were informed by the security tracking
company that the truck was traced to an address in Mymoena, Crescent in
Athlone. The members swiftly operationalised the information. The members
spotted a vehicle that was returning to the mentioned address,’’ said Anelisiwe
Manyana, Western Cape police spokesperson.
‘’A high speed chase ensued and the driver of the vehicle
was arrested as the video CCTV footage positively linked the suspect’s vehicle
offloading the stolen goods. The truck was later recovered abandoned in Strandfontein
policing precinct,’’ she added.
