Tributes continue to pour in for the late Major General André Lincoln.
Lincoln, a former head of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit,
and former President Nelson Mandela’s top bodyguard, passed away on Friday at
the age of 63.
The late Major General retired in 2022. He died after a long illness.
According to Western Cape Police Commissioner, Thembisile
Patekile, Lincoln played a key role in policing within the province and beyond.
Meanwhile, the ANC in the Western Cape has urged the
provincial government to grant Lincoln an official provincial funeral
‘’His work on the Cape Flats went beyond policing — he
built trust, restored dignity, and gave people a reason to believe in justice. Even
when confronted by serious illness and disability, including a double
amputation, he never surrendered his sense of duty. His spirit remained
unbreakable,’’ said Neville Delport, ANC Western Cape Provincial
Secretary.
‘’In light of his exceptional service to the Republic and
the people of the Western Cape, the ANC Western Cape calls upon the Provincial
Government to grant André Lincoln an official Provincial Funeral. He is more
than deserving of this recognition, not only for his role in the liberation
struggle and law enforcement, but also for his moral leadership and sacrifices
in defense of our democracy. We have mandated our Legislature Caucus to write to
Premier Winde in this regard,’’ he added.
