Another alleged underworld figure, and the fifth accused in the ‘Steroid King’ Brian Wainstein murder trial was killed on Thursday afternoon.
Andre Naudé, a close associate of Mark Lifman, was gunned
down on Voortrekker Road in Goodwood. His killing comes 7 months after Lifman was
murdered in George. The alleged leader of the Sexy Boys gang, Jerome Booysen,
is also an accused in that trial.
In addition to Naude and Lifman, accused William “Red”
Stevens, Anthony “Amier” van der Watt and Jason Maits were murdered, between
2021 and 2022. There were initially 13 accused on the charge sheet.
Naude’s murder is set to delay that trial even further.
Western Cape police said the motive for the shooting incident
is under investigation.
‘’Crime scene experts and Anti-Gang Unit detectives are
currently combing a crime scene for clues in Goodwood after a shooting incident
that left one man dead and another injured on Thursday afternoon,’’ said Captain
FC van Wyk, Western Cape police spokesperson.
‘’According to reports from the scene at approximately
14:40 on Voortrekker Road a vehicle pulled up next to the deceased who was in
the company of three other men and the occupants of the vehicle fired several
shots. As a consequence, a 55-year-old man was killed and another aged 61 was
wounded. Two other males aged 45 and 54 escaped injury. The wounded victim was
taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. A case of murder and
attempted murders were opened for investigation. No arrests have been effected
yet,’’ he added.
