Caution as sweets allegedly laced with drugs

Residents of Bellville South are being cautioned against purchasing of sweets allegedly laced with drugs.

This follows reports of two people being hospitalised after consuming an unknown substance.

The Bellville South Community Policing Forum has taken to Facebook to alert the public, advising people to be vigilant about accepting any food items from strangers.

According to the CPF, the Jelly-type sweets allegedly contained elements of tik, dagga and other unknown chemicals.

Western Cape police have confirmed that they are aware of the matter, although no criminal cases have yet been opened.

‘’ Bellville South police bears knowledge of the details cited in your enquiry. According to reports two individuals were hospitalized after they ate sweets which they received from an unknown source. The victims however did not register any criminal cases for further investigation. Bellville South police however registered an enquiry,’’ said Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, Western Cape police spokesperson.
