A Heinz Park mom is fighting for justice after her son’s alleged killer’s case got transferred from Athlone to the Wynberg Regional Court and is calling for witnesses to come forward.
Moeneeb Vardien, from Manenberg is accused of viciously murdering Randall Robain on a Philippi farm on 28 January 2024.
Robain’s body was found in a rubbish bin after being stabbed and set alight. Vardien yesterday made a brief and first appearance at the Wynberg Regional Court, having already been in the dock at the Athlone Magistrates Court.
Robain’s mother, Magdalene, said she did not want the accused to be released on bail, however she was shocked to hear that Vardien had abandoned his bail bid in February. She explained “That guy killed my son so violently, he stabbed my son four times, threw paint thinners on him, set him alight and threw him in the rubbish bin. I could not even recognise my son’s body”.
The accused appointed a legal aid representative and the court heard that the matter was postponed to 14 July.
The accused was told that he can expect to plea to the charges and plan for any witnesses to be called. The court further heard that should he be found guilty, he can enter a plea agreement with the state.
