On Monday 23rd June 2025,
marked National Whistleblowers day.
A tribute to the courage and
moral fortitude of whistleblowers — individuals who risk everything to expose
corruption, abuse of power, and gross misconduct in both the public and private
sectors.
The City of Cape Town has
called on residents to help fight scams, corruption, fraud and online
misinformation.
This is in commemoration of
Whistleblowers Day
It expressed the importance of
whistleblowers as they contribute towards the wellbeing of society.
The public has been advised to
evaluate and confirm information that has been shared online to ensure its
legitimacy.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of Public
Interest SA, Tebogo Khaas said: “Public Interest SA therefore calls on the South
African government to move with urgency in strengthening whistleblower
protection mechanisms. This includes long-awaited legislative reform, provision
of psychosocial and legal support, physical protection where necessary, and the
establishment of an independent, well-resourced whistleblower protection
agency.”
Khaas belives in honouring
whistleblowers not only in word but in deed, by standing up for those who stand
up for all of us.
