Parents who applied on-time (11 March 2025 – 15 April 2025) for their child to be in Grade R,1 or grade 8 in the Western Cape for the 2026 academic year, can now view the outcome of their applications.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) appealed to
parents to confirm their places as soon as possible, as this will free up places
for other learners. The WCED says this is vital where a learner has received
offers from multiple schools.
According to the provincial department, over 44 000
learners have been accepted to more than one school, allowing for additional
places to open up for other learners that have not received successful
applications at schools, or at their school of choice.
‘’We call these “double parkers”. Once these “double
parked” learners are confirmed to a specific school, the places at the other
schools can be offered to other learners,’’ said Bronagh Hammond, WCED
spokesperson.
She advised parents who have been offered a place to
confirm their choice of school by 17 June 2025. After this date, Hammond says
their highest-ranked choice of school will be automatically confirmed.
Meanwhile, the WCED urged parents to remain calm if their child
has not yet received an offer from any school
‘’There will be learners who are not successful in getting
placed during this first initial phase. We know that this is extremely
stressful and disappointing, but we appeal to parents to bear in mind that we
are still very early in the admissions process, and thousands of places will
still open up once “double parkers” accept their school. It is advisable to
stay in touch with the schools applied to and to request that the learner be
placed on a waiting list,’’ said Hammond.
‘’While the wait is stressful, there will be many shifts
within the system as parents confirm and decline places. This happens over the
next few months or so as schools finalise their admissions lists. If parents
still do not have a place for their child later this year, the department will
assist them with placement options,’’ she added.
For those who has still not yet applied for a school in the
province, Hammond advised that parents can still apply for 2026 school year by
applying either at one of its Education District offices or at a school.
‘’The schools are able to capture your application;
however, this does not confirm acceptance,’’ said Bronagh Hammond, WCED
spokesperson.
