Lwandle Library has reopened, but with limited services.
An attempted burglary at the facility was reported last
Monday, which resulted in the building being flooded.
According to the City of Cape Town, the perpetrators gained
access through the ceiling to bypass the alarm and ripped out electrical wires
and also damaged water pipes.
MMC for Community Service & Health, Francine Higham,
said the facility is able to provide limited services, such as Study spaces,
photocopying, assistance for children with project books and assignments, book
returns as normal, and Pre-school outreaches including storytelling and
activities
‘’Services that are dependent on electricity supply can
only be reinstated once the electricity is restored. This includes access to
the SmartCape facilities. The City appreciates the community’s patience and
understanding as repairs continue to restore normal operations.’’
Higham previously stated that the break-in comes just weeks
after the City announced a near R12 million upgrade project at the library.
