Social media users are sharing a video of a thief robbing a nearby Cape Town mosque.  On Sunday, August 17, the Strandfontein mosque was broken into.  The guy, wearing a hoodie, is seen in the 56-second footage unplugging the connections from Masjidul Bahr's audio system.  The worker is seen examining and removing the cabling while taking his sweet time.  He takes it off and folds it up.

Because the doors were closed, the suspect must have been inside the mosque, according to the voice of the person recording the video. The property included more than R10,000 worth of stolen goods.

According to reports,  Sandy Schuter, chair of the Strandfontein Community Policing Forum (CPF), said that this crime is alarming because the sound equipment at the masjid in Strandfontein was stolen during a recent break-in.  Although some may believe that outsiders are to blame, Schuter stated that children from our own citizens are frequently the ones who commit these crimes and, people purchase these stolen things.

She also urged locals to exercise caution. "We're encouraging people to keep an eye on their neighbourhoods and be alert for any suspect activity, such strange movements or somebody entering with things and leaving empty-handed.  Please notify SAPS if you see anything out of the ordinary so that we can investigate together.  By reporting it to SAPS, we can stop these break-ins from happening more frequently.  As of yet, nothing has been found," Schuter stated.

According to reports, the Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the Strandfontein SAPS has been tasked with investigating a burglary case.  Investigations are underway into the Sunday night break-in at the mosque. On Monday, the incident was reported.  According to preliminary investigations, the suspect or suspects entered the building through a window and took a fire extinguisher and sound equipment (including speakers, microphones and cabling) worth an estimated R10,000, Pojie stated.
