A municipal official was shot on Monday in his home, the Stellenbosch Municipality expressed disbelief. As this is the third official to be shot in four months. The man was in Kayamandi while he was off duty.
According to reports the Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk, attested to the event. "We are looking into the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident that occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. in front of a business on Sitona Street in Kayamandi, where an adult male was shot and injured. A case of attempted murder was filed for investigation by the Stellenbosch police. A private vehicle was used to take the injured victim to a nearby medical facility for treatment", said Van Wyk'.
Furthermore, He added that the police motive for the attack is yet to be determined, the suspects are yet to be arrested. He emphasized that this is not the first incident where a Stellenbosch official has been targeted. In June, former deputy mayor and councillor Nyaniso Jindela was shot and killed in Vineyard Street. In May, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Xolile Kalipa was also killed.
Van Wyk also promised that South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating the matter, and the municipality is providing support at the scene and assisting authorities in every way possible to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to book.
