Ambulance robber sentenced

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the Wynberg Regional Court on Tuesday, for the armed robbery of EMS personnel in January 2025.

Zikhumbele Condana was found guilty of pointing a firearm at the staff and robbing them of personal belongings. On January 4, the ambulance crew responded to a call out in Brown’s Farm, and when they stopped in Kobodi Street to check for directions on the GPS they were approached by the accused and another person.

Western Cape police welcomed the conviction and sentencing.

‘’The case was assigned to Constable Jason Arnold of the Nyanga Serious Violent Crime detectives who interviewed the co
mplainant and started his investigation, traced and arrested the accused who was identified as the perpetrator by the complainant,’’ said Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.

Provincial police says the sentence serves as a warning to other criminals who are targeting EMS personnel and preventing them from reaching vulnerable communities.
