Gun violence is spiraling out of control in Mitchell’s Plain, with police reporting murders on a daily basis.
The latest incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when a
23-year-old man was fatally shot in Tafelsig.
‘’Mitchell’s Plain SAPS registered a murder case for
further investigation following a shooting incident this morning, Tuesday, 02
September 2025 at about 07:00… Information reveals that the deceased was
waiting for his lift at a shop in Thereza Street, Tafelsig when two assailants
approached him from Carmen Road and one walked directly onto the deceased and
fatally shot him in the head. He succumbed to a gunshot wound and was declared
as deceased by medical personnel on scene. The suspects fled the scene. The motive
is yet to be established,’’ said Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, Western Cape
police spokesperson.
On Monday afternoon, a 30-year-old man was shot and killed
in Woodlands.
‘’Lentegeur police registered a murder case for investigation
following a shooting incident on Monday, 01 September 2025, in Mountview Road,
Woodlands, where a 30 year old male was shot and fatally wounded. Police
members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene
they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared
deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is yet to
be determined. The suspect/s fled the scene and are yet to be arrested,’’ said
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson.
Hours prior, a 32-year-old man was shot and killed at the Town
Centre. Police say the deceased and a friend were on their way from the court
enroute to a shop when two unknown men with masks approached them and opened
fire.
Meanwhile, Western Cape Police Oversight and Community
Safety MEC, Anroux Marais, lauded provincial SAPS for the seizure of a cache of illegal firearms, in Lentegeur, on Monday.
‘’This significant seizure is a major step forward in our
ongoing fight against gang-related violence, which continues to plague too many
communities. Firearms remain the weapon of choice in gang conflicts, and the widespread
access to illegal guns and ammunition empowers these criminal networks to carry
out deadly attacks with devastating consequences.’’
‘’Every illegal firearm taken off our streets is one less
tool of terror in the hands of gangsters. The trauma inflicted by these weapons
is felt deeply, and operations like this show what can be achieved when
intelligence and decisive action come together,’’added Marais.
The MEC urged SAPS to trace the origin of these weapons and
expose the networks and individuals responsible for distributing them.
‘’It is vital that this investigation leads to arrests and
prosecutions. Only through effective legal action can we send a clear message
to gangs: your reign of terror will not be tolerated, and there will be
consequences for those who continue to threaten the lives and livelihoods of
our people,’’ said Anroux Marais, Western Cape police Oversight & Community
Safety MEC.
