A hot day is on the cards for Cape Town today.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning of extremely uncomfortable conditions for parts of the Western Cape.

High temperatures of between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius are expected in places over the West Coast, as well as Swellendam and the Hessequa municipalities.

The City of Cape Town’s disaster management center spokesperson Sonica Lategan said the heat also poses a risk of possible fires. "The conditions that have been forecast can also promote the spread of fires, so we ask that everyone please be vigilant and report any sign of fire to the city’s public emergency communications center on 021 480 7700”.
